Engaged learning to me, is a new form of learning that has been recently introduced to students and teachers to meet the demands of the ever changing society and globalisation.In previous years, classroom lesson has been conducted by a orthodox method of the teacher reading out the texts in the book and explaining to the class what is the topic of the day all about.In this sort of learning the students merely just sit down in their desk and hear what their teacher is speaking, i use the term hear and not listen because of the different implication the terms hold. Hearing simply means that the words coming out of the teacher's mouth is simply being swallowed in without digesting the content or even without questioning. however if the student is listening, the students is capturing each term in its mind, questioning and analysing and evaluating the context.
Engaged learning to me is about the teacher's ability to draw the students attention to the subject and not just helping the student to memorise the fact for examinations but rather, the teacher has to take the role of a facilitator and help facilitator the action of helping the students to question, evaluate and analysis. This is a process of engaged learning, whereby the students and teachers are both engaged not to find the right solution but rather question the answers.
Engaged learning is for example, problem based learning.In this way, the students are now responsible for their own learning rather than the past whereby the teacher has the sole responsibility of educating their students. The teachers steps in as a facilitator to facilitate the learning and show a sense of direction to their pupils.
Engaged learning helps students of today to breakout of the shell or plain memorising. Students now have the capability to question, come up with ideas and innovative methods as well as solve problems that occurs in real life situations. Engaged learning now becomes related to the world and its problems it faces.
Engaged learning also does not take up a form individually, to me, engaged learning is More effective when more than just an individual takes part, different individual has their on ideas that are influenced by their background, religions and virtues. Thus to me, engaged learning more then just a individual learning.
Engaged learning to me means a window of possibility being opened to the new generation to has create a classroom of students who are confident and matured in their thinking.
